Here are two tours for Chol Hamoed Pesach. Please note that Monday's tour is at 2.30 p.m. and not as advertised in the newspapers. On Monday April 9th follow the drama of the Battle for the Jewish Quarter in 1948 and 1967. In the 1948 War of Independence the Jewish Quarter of the Old City fell to the Arab Legion just two weeks after the establishment of the State of Israel. For 19 years until its recapture by Israeli troops in the Six Day War in 1967 Jews did not set foot in the Old City. This is a story of Exile and Return. Meet at 2.30 p.m. just outside the Zion Gate. Please wear modest dress for this tour. On Wednesday April 11th explore Markets and Marketplaces in the Old City. For three thousand years, since King Solomon built the First Temple, Jerusalem's shopkeepers have catered to the needs of local residents and to the needs of thousands of pilgrims and tourists. The bustling, colourful markets reflect the long history of the city and the diversity of her residents and visitors. The tour will visit markets ancient, mediaeval and modern. Meet at 9.30 a.m. just outside the Jaffa Gate. Please note that the schedule is subject to change and that walking tours will only take place if a minimum of three people have registered. Registration in advance is required. Call 054-647-8955 or email tourwithjack@gmail.com . Don't forget to wear comfortable shoes and to bring hats and water. Each walking tour lasts 2-3 hours and costs NIS 70 plus entry fees. There are small site entry fees on both of this week's tours. Wishing you all chag sameach, |
