Tours for August 2nd and 4th - Nachlaot and the Ramparts Walk

posted Jul 29, 2010, 10:06 AM by Jack Cadranel
This week our Jerusalem English walking tours take you to look at some of the most picturesque 18th Century neighbourhoods of the New City and to walk on the ramparts of the Old City.

On Monday August 2nd tour the early neighbourhoods of Nachlaot from Even Israel to Batei Minsk.  By the last quarter of the 19th Century the Jews of Jerusalem sensed that their future lay outside the walls of the Old City. Neighbourhoods began to spring up along the Jaffa Road and elsewhere. Come and explore some of the picturesque 19th Century neighbourhoods of Nachlaot and hear the stories of the pioneers who built them and the people who lived there.
Meet at 5.00 p.m. at the corner of King George and Agrippas Streets.

On Wednesday August 4th we take A Walk on the Walls from the Citadel to the Dung Gate.  The tour starts at the Tower of David and follows the Ramparts Walk southwards past the Armenian Quarter, Mount Zion and the Jewish Quarter to the Dung Gate.  Leaving the ramparts near the Western Wall, it winds its way back through the markets and the Jewish Quarter to the Jaffa Gate.
Meet at 9.30 a.m. just outside the Jaffa Gate.

Please wear comfortable shoes and bring hats and water for these tours.  Each of them lasts 2-3 hours and costs NIS 60 per person plus site entrance fees.  There are entrance fees of NIS 16 on Wednesday's tour.  Please register in advance 054-647-8955 or

Coming up in the following week: On Monday August 9th at 5.00 p.m. tour Rechavia and find out why Yekkes lived in Spanish Streets.  On Wednesday August 11th at 9.30 a.m. explore Ir David - the City of David.
