In the second half of the 19th Century Jews from many parts of the world were making their way to the Land of Israel and Jerusalem began to develop outside the Old City walls.  My tours for the coming week are set in this exciting time.

On Monday 14th June Montefiore Meets Rav Kook as we walk from the windmill to Ticho House.  Although in the 1850’s living conditions in the Old City were terribly bad, people were too frightened to live outside the safety that its walls and locked gates offered them.  On this tour you will visit the first few Jewish neighbourhoods to be built outside the Old City and hear the stories of the benefactors and communal leaders like Moses Montefiore and Rabbis David ben Shimon and Yosef Rivlin who built them.
We'll meet at 2.30pm outside the Begin Centre on Nachon Street.

On Wednesday June 16th we'll explore Nachlaot - The Far Side.  From Kurdistan and Persia, the Yemen and Syria poor families set out on the long and difficult journey to Jerusalem, often losing what little they had along the way. At first they lived in makeshift huts and little by little established themselves and their communities. This tour tells their stories and visits the neighbourhoods they built in Nachlaot.
We shall meet outside Ima's Restaurant at the junction of Agrippas Street and Ben Zvi Boulevard at 9.30 am.

Please wear comfortable shoes and bring hats and water for these tours.  Each of them lasts 2-3 hours and costs NIS 60 per person.  Please register in advance 054-647-8955 or
tourwithjack@gmail.com .

The following week, on Wednesday 23rd June at 8.30am we'll tour The Temple Mount.  There is no tour on Monday 21st June.
