This Chol Hamoed I shall be guiding a bus tour to the Gilboa region on Monday September 27th and a walking tour in Jerusalem on Hoshannah Rabbah. The Gilboa tour is full.
The Jerusalem walking tour on Wednesday September 29th is called In Sickness and In Health. Roman Jerusalem had a healing centre and a temple dedicated to Aesculapius the Greek-Roman god of healing. The knights of Crusader Jerusalem ran a huge hospital to care for the many pilgrim visitors. The Franciscans ran a pharmacy here for over 400 years. How come then that in the 1840s Jerusalem had no hospital at all until the missionaries arrived? Come and explore health and health care through the ages in the Old City of Jerusalem.
We shall meet just inside the Dung Gate at 9.30am. Please wear comfortable shoes and bring hats and water for the walking tour. It lasts 2-3 hours and costs NIS 60 per person plus site fees of NIS 7.
