A New Tour in Rechov HaNevi'im and Ir David - June 28th and 30th

posted Jun 24, 2010, 8:31 AM by Jack Cadranel
On Monday 28th June I have a new tour for you.  Rechov HaNevi'im - from the Davidka to Ticho House.  To this street came Kaiser Wilhelm II, Rav Kook, Theodore Herzl, Conrad Schick, Rachel the Poetess, Boris Schatz the founder of the Betzalel School, the English Pre-Raphaelite painter William Holman Hunt and many, many doctors.  We'll meet them all on this tour of the "Back Road" to Jaffa Road, "The Street of the Hospitals" and "The Street of the Consulates". Come and explore its history and find out how it came in the end to be called "The Street of the Prophets".
Meet by the Davidka on Jaffa Road at 2.30 pm.

On Wednesday June 30th we'll explore Ir David - The City of David.   Is the massive building Eilat Mazar has found really King David's palace?  The Canaanite water system is 3,700 years old but did David's army climb up Warren's Shaft to conquer the city?  How did King Hezekiah defend Jerusalem against the Assyrians 2,700 years ago?  Why were paving stones of a 2,000 year old stepped street deliberately broken through?  Come and see for yourself!
Meet at 9.30am by the ticket office of the Ir David visitors' centre.

Please wear comfortable shoes and bring hats and water for these tours.  Each of them lasts 2-3 hours and costs NIS 60 per person plus site fees.  On Wednesday's tour there are site fees of NIS 30.  Please register in advance 054-647-8955 or
